Underwear and Unmentionables
The Carleton Place and Beckwith Heritage Museum is proud to present our latest exhibit, “Underwear and Unmentionables” … the history of things not always seen or talked about ….
What did women wear under their clothing to achieve the popular shape of the day? How on earth did they use the toilet while wearing bustles, hoops and crinolines? And why is there so little men’s underwear in museum collections?
Although extensive, our collection of undergarments is by no means complete. We are not presenting an entire history of women’s underwear, but we are proudly showing off what we’ve got!
While we are uncovering history, can we mention a few “unmentionable” topics? Our exhibit will include an interesting look at how sex education, feminine products, birth control, and childbirth have changed through the years.
Visit your local Museum and see just what the folks of Carleton Place were covering up all these years!
Exhibit Opens Tuesday February 6th and continues until May 4, 2018
The Museum is open Tuesday – Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm.
Admission is by donation. Thank you.
